Hong Kong Geography Day 2014 Bridging Conservation and Development: A Pathway to Sustainable Future

Hong Kong Geography Day 2014, co-organized by The Department of Geography at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong Geographical Association, was held on HKU Main Campus on 22 November, 2014. The main theme of this year is “Bridging Conservation and Development: A Pathway to Sustainable Future”. The event discussed the current situation, issues and opportunities of socio-economic development as well as environmental and cultural protection in Hong Kong and elsewhere.  Various ways to achieve a sustainable future in Hong Kong have also been explored.

Hong Kong Geography Olympiad 2014: Result Announcement (Updated) 香港地理奧林匹克2014賽果

The Hong Kong Geography Olympiad was held on 1 Mar 2014 in the school halls of various secondary schools. There were 773 students joined the competition.

The top 15 students are invited to join a second round assessment for the qualification of joining the International Geography Olympiad 2014, to be held in Krakow, Poland from 12 to 18 August 2014.

First runner-up： 荃灣官立中學（馬思齊、陳靖熙、羅瑋聰、蘇俊禮） 總分: 135
Second runner-up： 藍田聖保祿中學（陸嘉莉、葉玉佳、翁鑫宜、饒海欣） 總分: 132

講者介紹： 劉琳教授 香港中文大學地球系統科學課程助理教授 劉教授加入中文大學理學院前，曾於美國史丹福大學從事研究工作。他現時在中大作有關極地變化的研究與教育工作，主要研究北極冰川與凍土變化，並與本館緊密合作推動公眾教育，期望提高市民對氣候變化的認識。

內容： 劉教授將分享北極之旅和氣候變化對極地的影響

Hong Kong Geography Olympiad, 2013 Result Announcement

The 3rd Hong Kong Geography Olympiad was held on 23 February 2013 at three secondary schools in Hong Kong (Lok Sin Tong Ku Chiu Man Secondary School, Po Leung Kuk Laws Foundation College, Wah Yan College Kowloon). There were 708 students joined the competition. The top 12 students are invited to join a second round assessment for the qualification of joining the International Geography Olympiad 2013, to be held at Kyoto, Japan from 30 July to 5 August 2013.

HKGA Annual General Meeting 2013 cum Seminar “One River Two Systems : Issues of spatial integration and environmental management in the Shenzhen River Zone" (‘一河兩制’ - 深圳河流域的空間整合及環境管理問題)

Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Hong Kong Geographical Association will be held on 20 April 2012 at 10:00 a.m. after the seminar entitled “One River Two Systems : Issues of spatial integration and environmental management in the Shenzhen River Zone” (‘一河兩制’ - 深圳河流域的空間整合及環境管理問題) led by Professor Ng Cho Nam, Associate Professor of the Department of Geography in the University of Hong Kong. The seminar will begin at 10:00 a.m.
